Frank is the managing director of AAA Asphalt Surfaces. He has a Bachelor of Civil Engineering degree from Curtin University in Perth.

He has been involved in the asphalt industry for more than 25 years. He has previously managed Pioneer Asphalts in Perth in the late 1980’s, then Pioneer Asphalts in Hong Kong in the early 1990’s before establishing his own business in Hong Kong in the mid to late 1990’s. He was involved in the West Kowloon Expressway (80,000 tonnes),Yuen Long Bypass (220,000 tonnes) and the new Hong Kong Airport at Chek Lap Kok (first runway – 550,000 tonnes).

He sold out to the other partners and relocated back to Perth in 1998. Upon his return he took on the position of General Manager of BGC Asphalt & Quarries before establishing AAA Asphalt Surfaces in 2006.

Frank has been involved in many Main Roads projects including the following –

  • Broome Highway Bypass
  • Geraldton Southern Transport Corridor – deeplift asphalt and GRS
  • Port Access Corridor Esperance – deeplift asphalt
  • Downer Mouchel Perth metro profiling and resurfacing works

He was also involved in the recent upgrade of the Fremantle Port area at Rous Head which included approximately 30,000 tonnes of deeplift asphalt.

Dave Adams

Dave has worked in the asphalt industry for the last 27 years all over Australia.  He began as a paving machine operator gradually working his way up to the position of foreman by the age of 24.   Dave then moved to various locations in Australia including working as a foreman for Pioneer Road Services in Adelaide and later also learning the area of bitumen spray sealing working as the seal supervisor in Cairns.  During his time in Cairns he managed to train the spray seal crew to also lay asphalt and was involved in the resurfacing of five airport runways in the region.  He was also involved in many RTA resurfacing projects.

Dave then moved back to Western Australia where he took up the role of asphalt supervisor at Boral Asphalt before venturing further and establishing a crew for Omega Asphalt.  Following several years there he took up the position of senior paving supervisor at Fulton Hogan where he worked for many years before taking up the role of contracts manager with AAA Asphalt Surfaces in May 2014.

He has worked on many large scale projects throughout his time and has extensive knowledge in asphalt spray seal (including GRS) and profiling.  He is able to manage multiple crews at one time achieving quality, time and cost criteria.  He has been involved in many Main Roads projects in WA and is well known and respected by Main Roads personnel.

Following are some of the projects Dave has been involved in –

  • Cross runway deeplift and resurfacing at the Perth International Airport 10,000 tonnes
  • Resurfacing of the taxiways at RAAF base in Darwin 30,000 tonnes
  • Asphalt resurfacing with GRS on Roe Hwy 110,000m2 for MRD
  • Asphalt resurfacing with GRS on Kwinana Freeway 238,000m2 for Thiess
  • Deeplift asphalt for MacMahon Contractors at GERI Interchange 110,000 tonnes

Bruce McLean

Bruce has worked in the asphalt industry in New Zealand and Australia for over 25 years.

He has been involved with and managed many large scale projects including airport runway overlays to freeway upgrades and resurfacing.

He has assumed responsibility for the projects from initial setup and mobilisation to conducting mix trials and ensuring laying operations meet specifications.

Bruce is very experienced in liaising with clients, programming works and ensuring that resources and progress meets expectations.

Elroy is the newest member of our team and brings with him a wealth of experience in the process control and automation areas of production.

He has been instrumental in upgrading and refining the control systems of our asphalt production plants to ensure accurate production control. This ensures all asphalt produced meets the relevant specifications.
